“The original name came from our managers’ surnames, Abenoja and Galindo. We took the initials A and G, added an apostrophe s, and included a couple more letters to form ‘Aegis,’ a Greek word meaning ‘shield and protection.’”

On November 17, 2024, Aegis faced a heartbreaking loss with the passing of Mercy Sunot after her battle with cancer. The band paid a heartfelt tribute:
“Mercy’s voice wasn’t just a part of AEGIS—it was a source of comfort, joy, and strength for many. Her passion and unforgettable stage presence will always be cherished.”
An exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News revealed that the band was aware of Mercy’s condition and had hoped for her recovery.
Despite the tragedy, Aegis confirmed that their Valentine’s concert in February 2025 will proceed, featuring a special tribute to Mercy. Additionally, part of the concert proceeds will be donated to her family.
